Throughout the years, many myths about chiropractic care have emerged. People who are unfamiliar with this holistic health service may have misconceptions about what it is that chiropractors do. Each month DiMartino Chiropractic will be sharing common misconceptions and myths about chiropractic care along with the true facts via social media and on this page. Check out this page monthly to learn the true facts about chiropractic care.
Myth: Chiropractic Is Not Good For Children
Fact: Children are susceptible to traumas, falls and accidents as they grow. Since our fastest growth and development happens during the first few years of life, checking for abnormalities early on is critical for healthy development. Research has shown that children under the care of chiropractors have fewer colds and infections, and when they do get sick, the symptoms don’t last as long! Chiropractic is particularly important for young athletes who are involved in contact or recreational sports. Minor bumps and bruises should be properly assessed so they don’t lead to further pain and dysfunction later in life. Chiropractic care allows children to grow with better nerve function and healthy development.
Myth: Once you start going to a chiropractor, you have to keep going for the rest of your life.
Fact: Your chiropractor will make recommendations for your treatment/management plan based on your specific diagnosis. Going to a chiropractor is much like going to the dentist, exercising at a gym, or eating a healthy diet: As long as you keep it up, you continue to enjoy the benefits.
Routine chiropractic care can help you feel better, move with more freedom, and stay healthier throughout your lifetime. Although you can enjoy the benefits of chiropractic care even if you receive care for a short time, the real benefits come into play when you make chiropractic care a part of your wellness lifestyle.
Myth: Chiropractors Crack Your Bones
Fact: The most common form of treatment used by chiropractors is an adjustment. It is a non-invasive, manual procedure that is delivered by skilled chiropractors to dysfunctional spinal or extremity joints. The audible “crack” or “pop” sound sometimes heard during an adjustment is caused by the slight opening of the joint space and the release of gas pressure within the joint.
